Nice and comfortable place on Santa Cruz island! - CASA NATURA LODGE is a nice, confortable and well attended place personally by its owner, Jonny, and his family. Service and personal attention by Jonny outstanding!
It is located... read more in Bella Vista village, some 7 kms from Puerto Ayora, 15 to 20 minutos by taxi (all are Toyota Hilux). Taxi costs 5 usd. Also the Lodge has free shuttle to Puerto Ayora and back, twice a day. Also very convenient. Being away from the hustle and noise of Puerto Ayora can be an advantage.
Room and bed were very confortable. Shower with hot water. Lovely common areas with large breakfast tables, another with sofas, a bookcase with travel books, some novels and other reading material. Refill for water bottles is available at all times, so is coffee and tea! A pool is nearly finished; another outside terrace under construction with a pool for turtles on the premises.
Breakfasts are available from 6 am to 8 or 9. With fresh juice of tree tomato, eggs, bread, cheese, ham and jam.
The wifi did not work while we were there. It is a problem in general. Jonny us down to his office (next to Hostal Salinas, also run by him) in Puerto Ayora to have Wifi access (worked perfectly there). Definetely the least confortable issue during our stay.
Recommended for a nice dinner out: Los Kioskos street in Puerto Ayora; in the evening the street is closed, with tables and chairs in the middle. We had the fried fish, ‘el brujo’, very characteristic of the island, lovely! Very affordable and delicious option to dine out.
Other great places for lunch or dinner un Puerto Ayora: La Regata, Midori for sushi and Andrea & Valerio for lovely Ecuadorian food!
Jonny also contacted us with a tour operator, Daniel, who helped us out with some lovely day tours. The tour to the island Seymour (north of Baltra) was a highlight. Even though we only could be one hour and a half on the island, we witness the lovely wildlife, iguanas, birds (with babies), the redbreasted male fragata bird, the blue feeted Booby bird. There is a bird breeding colony on Seymour. You see them at a couple of meters distance. A real wonderful experience! Also we saw some beautiful land iguanas, camouflaged under neath some cactus trees.
When on the last day there was a strike all taxis on the island, lasting all afternoon and evening, Jonny personally drove us to town and back later in the evening.
All in all a very pleasant stay!
